HARC is currently delivering the Lower Thomson River Flood Study, together with our project partners Venant Solutions, Michael Cawood and Associates and Associate Professor Rory Nathan of the University of Melbourne. For this large and complex catchment we have undertaken an innovative Monte Carlo design flood hydrology approach, which includes probabilistic sampling of rainfall spatial patterns. Both the hydrological and hydraulic models have recently been calibrated, and preliminary design flood estimates have been mapped. The team recently visited Sale to discuss progress on the project with the local community and seek input on the mapping. This was a valuable session with many great flood anecdotes helping us to confirm our models. The next stages in the project will be to complete the design flood model runs and commence the flood intelligence assessment.
