Dr Declan O’Shea is a Senior Hydrologist with 8 years of experience in hydrology and water resources working across both research and consulting.
Declan has expert knowledge on the impact of climate change on extreme rainfalls and floods having completed their PhD at the University of Melbourne in this field in 2023. The findings of their research have helped to inform the climate change guidance chapter of the Australian Rainfall and Runoff guidelines.
Declan possesses advanced skills in statistical analysis, and hydrologic and water resources modelling that they regularly apply to characterise and understand hydrologic systems.
Declan has experience in a range of hydrologically complex projects, including quantifying extreme rainfall and flood risks for large dam catchments across Australia, and deriving intensity-frequency-duration (IFD) curves for southeast Queensland. They also have experience quantifying drought risk, including working to derive triggers for water restrictions for Melbourne.
