Zachary Hart

Hydrologist

Zachary is a hydrologist who graduated from Monash University in 2025 with a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Science (Geographical, Earth). He completed his final year honours research project on investigating the drivers of groundwater non-recovery across Australia following the Millennium Drought.

Zachary has experience in simulating hydrological processes in MATLAB using HydroSight, including the construction and calibration of groundwater hydrographs using real-world groundwater level observations and climate data, as well as the modification of HydroSight’s transformation forcing function within its soil moisture model to incorporate a new plausible representation of plant water-use behaviour under drought conditions. He has experience using QGIS, TUFLOW, and HydroSight, as well as MATLAB, Python, and C. Zachary also has field and laboratory experience in soil profile testing, groundwater sampling, and groundwater contaminant assessment.

Joining HARC in 2026, Zachary continues to develop his skills and proficiency and is passionate about utilising his experience and interests in hydrology and environmental sciences to achieve considered, data-driven solutions to water-related challenges.
