HARC is delighted to be delivering the Lower Thomson River Flood Study for the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, in conjunction with our project partners Venant Solutions, Michael Cawood and Associates and Associate Professor Rory Nathan of the University of Melbourne.  The study area covers the complex floodplain in and around the town of Sale, which is affected by inflows from three major rivers (the Thomson, Macalister and Latrobe) as well as the influence of water levels in the Gippsland Lakes.  The project will feature application of Monte Carlo hydrologic modelling techniques to sample natural variability in catchment conditions and spatial and temporal rainfall distribution.  Following a very successful project inception meeting and community consultation session on 20 February, the team will now get stuck into the detail of the hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, with the study planned for completion by April next year.
