Kate Austin

Principal - Water Resources Engineer

Kate has 28 years’ experience in hydrology and water resources, particularly in the development and application of water resource (river system) models in REALM and Source.  She has acted as technical adviser and expert reviewer on many water resource modelling projects throughout Australia and internationally.

Through a range of different analyses Kate has provided advice to clients on urban and rural demand modelling, forecasting and management, supply system optimisation, augmentation and forecasting, assessing and managing for the impacts of climate change, development of restriction rules and allocation policies, delivery and compliance assessment of environmental flows, and investigating the impact of changes in customer behaviour.

Kate has carried out independent review of a range of major water resource models including those for the Melbourne, Sydney, Geelong, Ballarat and Canberra water supply systems.

Recently she has been working on modelling to support Urban Water Strategy development for South Gippsland Water, North East Water, Barwon Water, Central Highlands Water and East Gippsland Water.  She also recently carried out a technical review of the Melbourne Headworks Source model and the Thomson-Macalister Source model.  She is overseeing the development of the Werribee and Maribyrnong Source models, and is currently developing the Ovens Source model.
